How do i stiffen the suspension on my 96 yz 125?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

i weigh around 150 to 155 and eveytime i jump it over 5 feet it bottoms out i know it has something to do with the little cannister on the side but idk help me out plz

you are the target weight for the stock setup so I would guess the springs are worn out and the shock is in need of a recharge. if the suspension has never been built, it is certainly time.

adjusting the compression and rebound clickers on the fork and shock won’t actually stiffen the suspension, they control the action of the suspension- how fast or slow it will respond. you could try turning the clickers up (clockwise) but i doubt that would fix your problem.

this page will tell you how to adjust your clickers, but again I would say it won’t help much if you are bottoming out on 5 foot jumps

Why remove the oil cap when the engine is running?

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I’m trying to sell my car. Twice this week people came and while the engine was running they removed the oil cap (which caused a change in the sound of the engine). Now my ‘check engine’ light comes on. Is it because of what they did? Why were they doing that? Should I stop people from doing that? Is this likely to need an expensive fix?

They are checking for blow by, when the rings go bad, it will cause pressure to build up in the crank case and you can tell by removing the oil cap. If I were looking at a used car, and the owner told not to take off the oil cap, I would walk away, so if you want to sell the car, your going to have to let them check it over.

………….

As with most all 4 stroke cycle engines. They use a vent whether PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) or small engines use similar vent. This is designed for a negative atmospheric pressure. A vacuum. Why anyone would take oil fill cap off is beyond me. kick the tires instead!!
To reset computer disconnect negative battery lead!
This will clear any codes that came up. I think that your vacuum was lowered due to removal of oil fill cap. no harm should have been done to engine.

……………….

do u mean the oil dip stick?
because its not good to remove the oil cap when the engine is running because the oil will jump out everywhere
trust me i know what happend
did it once OMG what a mess hahaha
i see people removing after the engine (running) is shut off
then open the oil cap
usually they check the head and the oil though
but im not sure
hope this helps

…………

>> Now my ‘check engine’ light comes on. Is it because of what they did? Why were they doing that? Should I stop people from doing that? Is this likely to need an expensive fix?

Yes it might be related to that. Go to autozone and have the code scanned and reset. Hopefully it won’t come back.
===
People should NOT check for oil (or open the oil filler cap) when the engine is running. Just explain to the people that is a dumb thing to do and turn off the engine first. If nothing else, it will splatter the oil all over your engine valve cover.

………….

Yes! old cap is pretty much like radiator cap, it holds pressure, if you remove oil cap you relieve the presure that why engine knocking. Put the cap back and disconnect the battery for 1 minute or so, connect the bat, that should fix the prob

Who else bikes places due to gas prices?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

to school, work etc. i’m saving a ton of money between the last 2 months

I’ve been on motorcycles since I was a kid. Got my first roadster at 15. Even went nearly 2 years without owning a car, did everything on the bike.

Is it because of gas prices? Nah. I ride because I ride. The thousands of benefits are just fringe benefits to me

……………..

My bikes (I have two) have been my primary mode of transportation for years now. I have a car but I only use it when it rains or when I need to carry something big. If it’s just me, I’ll take my bike. Luckily I live in California where I can ride the bike year round.

I have full coverage insurance on one of the bikes (the nice new one, a 1993), and liability only on the car and the other bike. Liability on a ’second motorcycle’ is $35/year!

……………………….

My husband rides motorcycles. I don’t think we’ve saved any money though because he keeps buying more bikes and riding them for fun and recreation but it helps offset the cost of my car because with several kids and all their crap I drive a Suburban. However neither of us work out of the home so that helps as well not to have to drive to work everyday and I get my groceries delivered to me via Safeway.com so I rarely leave the house

………………………

A year ago, I bought this

http://www.sloansmotorcycle.com/new_vehi…

I drive it most everywhere and save at least 800 dollars a month on gas. (Because I live 45 miles from work)

I think it is one of the best decisions I have EVER made.

I need $7400 by the middle-end of August. Help ! ?

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I found the perfect car. Its a 2007 Red Toyota Camry. The guy has the car in spain and its going to cost $400 shipping and handling on my part, $800 total. Well, im 17 years old. I know i cannot take a loan out of the bank and my parents will laugh all the way there if I ask them (lol). This september will be my senior year in highschool and this year I have to drive to school because I only have 6 out of 8 classes and we are the only class that gets the privilege anyway. I ordered some mail letters from home thing to start making money from that but i hear alot of scams from it. This one doesnt require me to place ads or pay for all that gaarbage but I wonder how they provide all that.. =C. Anywho, any suggestions on how I can get this car. Any way to make money of that much? I’ve already started bragging about it to all my friends..lol bad idea. But if I dont have this car I will be ruined. I know some of you guys know how to make that money. Help me and I will love you forever ! ! !

First off, any of the “make money from home” links are scams. Don’t fall for them.

Second, it also sounds like the $7400 Camry in Spain is a scam as well. Did you find this car on craigslist or eBay? Did he offer to use the “eBay Protection Program” or something similar (it doesn’t exist)? Is he military, divorcing, living overseas, and “needs to sell the car cheap, fast”? Did he offer to ship you the car and let you inspect it for 3-7 days?

Both have “SCAM” written all over them.

If you have a link to the car ad, post it here. Would love to see if it is indeed this well-known scam

……….

look for a different car.. try carmax or craigslist… try looking for one closer to where you live. it might be a scam, especially if he wants u to send the money first.. just look for a car locally.if u find one nearby, take ur mom or dad to look at it, see if its in good condition. its better to look at it and try it out before you buy. if its only 7400, then it could be a scam.

Almost fell for same scam. 05 bmw for 3000, wanted me to send the money first he wud transfer it for free. dont fall for it!

………….

Why do you have to get this car from Spain? I don’t think this is a good deal. Remember, if it’s too good to be true it probably is. Also ask him to send you the VIN of the car and ask the dealer if it’s a legit VIN. Personally I would stick with a local dealer or private party. Also, PLEASE take the advice of your parents, Remember they have the best intentions in mind for you. Unlike this Fella in Spain. Just be sure to CYOA so you don’t work hard at making all this money and then sending it off and not getting a car.

Now on to making money, if you really really want this car, Work you tail off to get it. When I was in high school (Many Many moons ago) I worked 3 jobs. In one summer I worked 2 full time jobs and 1 part time. I made almost 1200 dollars a 3 month, (Please keep in mind that this was in the 70’s so pay rates where much lower. I would think if you put things on hold and work hard, save your money, you should be able to get close to the amount you want

………..

I am pretty sure that this is not legit. I shipped an audi a4 from Germany to US 3 years ago. Shipping companies charge by size of the car. Back then it cost me $1100 shopping around for a good price. With fuel prices being what they are today, I doubt the price has dropped that much.

As for the car, a 2007 for 7400 sounds suspect as well. The blue book for an stipper base model 07 Camry with 50,000 miles (thats HIGH) is $13,800.

Also, if the car is in Spain, is it US or Euro spec. If it is Euro, you are looking at quite abit of money of money to convert it to US specs. Not sure with Toyotas, but it could include upgrading bumpers, glass, emissions equipment, interior guages, etc….

Speaking of Euro, are you sure the price is 7400 US dollars, or 7400 Euro’s? If it is euro’s , then it is gonna be quite a bit over 7400 US. Then you will to go through all the customs paperwork and crap. Can be a real headache.

Save yourself alot of time and trouble and find a local car that you can test drive and make sure you like. Even if is is not a scam, it is more trouble than it is worth.

Isnt a bmw z4 the perfect car for a 16 year old i mean kmon!?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

ok im a good driver and im very very very mature i mean i am the best! i swear lol anyway my dad is like no im not getting u the z4 cuz im “inexperienced” dude i’ve been driving for 6 months now i have a permit and im getting my license soon i deserve this car who agrees and who disagrees

btw i live in cali for i dont worry about snow and stuff its always hot here

the insurance is only 1320.00 every 6 months thats sooooooooo cheap

I say that your dad should def get you the bmw.
My daddy got me mine.
I’m pretty sure its the same one as that.
I don’t see why not. I mean dads are supposed to spoil us right??

…………………

i think that’s sort of tough because even if your a really responsible driver, others aren’t. You can’t control other people on the road. =/ I’m about your age too so I know how it feels to want a really sweet ride, but you have to consider why your dad isn’t letting you have this car.

btw you have great taste in cars!

…………..

wow dude. first of maybe you should get a job and buy yourself the car you want. Also 6 months….experienced? I think not. Im 20 and I drive almost 2,000 MILES EVERY WEEK! with a 40 Foot Bus as a part time job. I am still inexperience. I have never been in a wreck and thats with only 4 years of driving but im still young and inexperience.

………………

6 months is not what you call a experienced driver, drive for 2 years then i will say your experienced, the insurance is gonna be real high for you since your a teen plus ya i would also suggest starting off with a older car then work your way up to the z4

……….

DISAGREES
How about giving that expensive car when she turns 21 AND has a good driving record. My reasoning behind this statement are the following:

From the first link:
# In the U.S. during 2004, 4,767 teens ages 16 to 19 died of injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes. During 2005, nearly 400,000 motor vehicle occupants in this age group sustained nonfatal injuries severe enough to require treatment in an emergency department (CDC 2006).

# The risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among 16- to 19-year-olds than among any other age group. In fact, per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to crash (IIHS 2006).

# In 2005, teenagers accounted for 10 percent of the U.S. population and 12 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths (IIHS 2006).

# The presence of teen passengers increases the crash risk of unsupervised teen drivers; the risk increases with the number of teen passengers (Chen 2000).

From the second link:
While American teenagers know how to handle a car well enough to get a license, they tend to lack the maturity and judgment needed to drive safely in real-world conditions, according to Smith.

He told parents the first thing they should do is set a good example for their teenage children. If a parent runs stop signs, doesn’t use turn signals and eats and drinks while driving, then a teen is likely to do so, too.

Parents should restrict how much driving newly licensed teens do until they have gained more experience, Smith said. Teens need to focus their attention on the road and avoid distractions, particularly cell phones.

Furthermore, every teen passenger in a car increases the likelihood a teen driver will get into an accident. The speaker recommended parents limit passengers for the first six to nine months their child is driving.

From the third link:
How many teen related auto accidents occur each year?

Auto accidents are the number one killer of teens. Almost 6,000 teens die every year in auto accidents. Teens account for 14% of all motor vehicle accident deaths. 5,288 teens died in motor vehicle accidents in 2005 in the U.S. Crashes are the leading cause of death among teens, accounting for more than one-third of all deaths of 16 to 18 year-olds.
What are the primary factors for teen auto accidents?

Parents are often relieved when their teen starts driving because they don’t have to chauffeur them around anymore. The two primary factors that cause teen auto accidents are immaturity and inexperience. Teens are likely to engage in risky behavior, such as: speeding, not wearing a seat belt, passengers in the vehicle, night driving (9pm - 6am), alcohol, following other vehicles too close, passing inappropriately, & driver error. Young drivers tend to overestimate their own physical and driving abilities and underestimate the dangers on the road.
What is the age that teens are at the highest risk for auto accidents?

Sixteen year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age, including older teenagers. However, older teens are still high-risk drivers.
Is there a risk with my teen having passengers in the vehicle?

The presence of passengers can increase the risk by distractions and peer pressure to take risks. Teens often make poor decisions and deliberately seek thrills like speeding with passengers in the vehicle.

PS…I realize that “she has had her heart set on this car since she was 13″ Do you honestly think that a 16 year old has the necessary skills that driving any car??? Will she have a job to cover the cost necessary to insure such a costly car??? -or- will you have to cover the cost…(as well as the cost of the car??)

I am a divorced parent and my daughter sometimes begs relentlessly for things that are far beyond my budget. I have had to tell several times that we can’t afford it. Now, she understands…

Oh, by the way, since her friend died in the car accident, she has shown NO need to get her driver’s license at all. She is too scared to drive. She is my only child as well…and I want to keep it this way!

My daughter’s friend was had his first auto accident…a head on car crash…He was 17 when he died from injuries sustained in his first accident.

“aeroplane some times stay stable in one position in the sky”,is possible?

Monday, October 15th, 2007

1. Nope, this is not possible in the conventional airplanes.

However, there are some fighter planes and jets that have this capability to stay (hover) at one position in the sky.

2. obsolutely no

only jet planes and choppers can do that

3. it sure can, and you can even go back wards…. I have done it many times. If you fly a smaller aircraft, and are flying at an airspeed of 50 knots, and you are flying into a head wind at 50 knots… your effective ground speed it ZERO. A few years ago I was “hovering” above the Lincoln NE airport run way… I sat at the same spot, and even was moving backwards, due to my a/c speed was the same or less than the head wind speed. On the larger a/c they fly faster and are more powerful, yet the head wind still reduces their ground speed for the same reason. Now when I turned my a/c around ,my ground speed was well over 150 knots, and I was only at 75% throttle.

4. Yeah, to a certain extent.

Trimmed properly, low altitude, fixed wing aircraft will maintain the last course set by the pilot and maintain altitude and airspeed.

Hands off flying at higher altitudes is better left to the autopilots the more complex aircraft are equipped with. Trying to maintain control of the airplane manually, (hand flying,) above certain altitudes, depending on the aircraft, is a little like trying to balance a postage stamp on the point of a needle.

At lower altitudes, fixed wing aircraft will basically fly themselves as pilots grope around for the chart in the seat back pocket, or use the relief tube, (if you don’t know, you don’t want to,) or concentrate on trying to find an approach plate in a Jepp’s book.

5. It can deffintely be done. During initial flight training it’s called slow flight. This is doen more in smaller aircraft like Cessna’s and Piper’s. You place the aircraft into the wind, flaps fully down. Point the nose up and apply throttle. In perfect conditions you can actually go bacwards in a non-VTOL aircraft/Helicopter. I did this once while earning my pilot’s license with Embry-Riddle down in Daytona Beach Florida. Got a lot of finger’s pointing up at me from the beach when I was “backing” my C172 south along the beach while the nose was pointed north.

6. Yes it can. Have done it many times when I see a bird coming on my way, I just stop and let him go .

7. If a plane flies into a 100 mph wind at airspeed of 100 mph it will appear to have stopped in mid-air relative to someone on the ground

8. well some times if you are moving in a car in the opposite direction of a low level flying aircraft, and between you and the aircraft, and in your filed of vision their is an object like a high building for instance, the air craft would seem like its not moving, eyes plying games…

9. Sure it’s possible. Even possible to go backwards. Fly a hundred knotts airspeed into a hundred fifty knott headwind you’ll go backwards over the ground at fifty knotts.

10. yes and no
no for commercial airliners…use some common sense lol they’re way too big for that
yes, take the Harrier for example. it is a VTOL aircraft..Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft. i’ve seen a documentary on the national geographic channel and the jet engines rotate vertically to propel the plane up.

Taking Luxury Cars to a New Level

Friday, September 28th, 2007

When you buy a luxury car from the dealer you will be impressed with many things, but more often than not you will be surprised at the wheels. That’s because while car manufacturers do try to make an effort when it comes to wheels and luxury vehicles they just can’t create a look that is what every buyer will want. However, there is an option available for people who want outstanding wheels that really convey their style all the while being luxurious. The best way to get this look is to buy a set of Vellano wheels. That is because Vellano has been in business for over a decade and they know how to create the luxury look you are wanting in your wheels. There are many different options of Vellano forged wheels available. And of course, the price of the wheels will be based on the size and what they are made of. Some wheels are 19, 20, or 22 inches while 24 inch wheels are also available. All wheels utilize a true forged CNXC barrel with a solid tip. The colors available include chrome finish, brushed finish, grey finish, white finish, and red finish. The wheels are available for most any type of sports or luxury car, but if you are curious you should call first. That is because everyone wants a set of wheels that fit their vehicle and take it to a different level.

Is it safe to switch between drive and neutral while driving?

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Yes fine, no damge can be caused so long as the engine is running. However, damage occurs when you shift from neutral to Drive while the car is going at speed. This causes the gearing AND engine some stress as it attempts to compensate for your instruction i.e. travelling 80k then slamming it into 1st 2nd 3rd or Drive.

The best entry level motorcycle?

Friday, September 14th, 2007

My absolute first recommendation for a starter bike is this: Old, cheap, and pre-scuffed. :) You almost certainly will go down, and in fact, I recommend putting your trainer bike over at least once to get the feel of the weight of it, and practice techniques of lifting it up without assistance.

I’d only recommend an inline 4-cylinder sport bike as a starter bike if you’re a large guy, or it has a very small engine, like a 250-400cc. In-line 4 cyclinder engines are…sporty…which means they’re rev-happy by nature, with clutches that grab quickly, and if you’ve never had a throttle in your hand, it can be unforgiving of mistakes–literally throwing you when you don’t expect it.

I’d recommend a more mellow V-twin which has low-end torque a lower powerband, and a smoother clutch. Alot of old standards fit this category. The seat height is also more manageable than sport bike configurations so it’s easier to balance. And you can get them used and cheap.

I don’t know where your standing in life is, where you live, or how big you are, but I’m assuming you’re not living in a country that restricts you to lower cc engines while learning, and I’m assuming you’re pretty average in weight/height, and that you’re planning on holding on to this bike for a little. In the States, while 250cc’s make terrific starter bikes, you’ll typically grow out of them within a year or so, because they’re a bit under-sized for highways. They’ll do 70mph fine actually, but boy are those little engines working hard to keep up! If the idea of swiching bikes next season seems like a hassle to you, trying for a 400-600cc standard may be stretching you at first, but if you’re careful while learning, you’ll probably enjoy it for a bit longer. Where would I start? Model names go all over the place depending on your country. Rebel 250’s/Nighthawk 250’s are the standard around here. Suzuki Savage (now called the boulevard?), Yamaha Virago’s These are all good starting points. The engine size will be dependent on how big you are, and how much physical aptitude you have. Personally…I hopped on a motobecane moped…then a scooter…then a Yamaha Heritage Special 400, then things just kept getting bigger and bigger… Enjoy the ride. And wear your protection bcs wearing stuff like shorts and flipflops on a bike is not only foolish, but looks just downright amateur.
